Image
Follow my blog with Bloglovin Now that we have the snow behind us, (well, there are a lot of parking spots that are still being taken up by fallen tree branches and snow) but for the most part all the roads are clear, and the city is back to normal. I was captivated by this picture so I have to share it with you!

One week after the Snowstorm!

Image
I am now better prepared for the NEXT Snowstorm. I went out to Machne Yehuda and found a pair of rubber boots at a little shop almost at the end of the main aisle! Since this is the beginning of the winter, only Hashem knows what he has in store for us later on! This picture was taken this morning from my favorite place, my living room window, and you can still see snow left on the ground! Simply Amazing! Snowing in Jerusalem!

Image
Here is the day that All the kids have been waiting for! Snow in Jerusalem, early in the season. Just think what January will hold! Usually, if it is going to snow, it will be in January, so this is a nice surprise! Have fun, stay safe, don't drive unless you have tire chains. It is better to miss the appointment than to have to call Magan David Adom. Two of my sons will be working all day today, but I'd rather that you not have to meet them in their professional capacity! Rachael Alice http://travelinghairsalon.weebly.com/ - Let's make the appointments for next week, OK?

Chanuka The time of our remembering

Image
The holiday of Chanuka celebrates our Jewish Identity. We light candles to symbolize the strengthening of our commitment to spread the light of Torah to all the world. Our National Struggle even continues on to this day. There are those who want Israel to be like all the other nations. They want us to have the same consumer culture, the "Give Me" culture. Others are busy with such things as "Black Friday" Why is it the color black? That symbolizes the cult of darkness, while we as Jews bring more light. Each day we add more light. Yes, we give Chanuka gelt to our children, who are expected to use this to also help the poor and give charity, just as we adult give charity. As we look around and see the Menorahs in every window, we feel proud to be Jews and we give light to the world. In the ancient world, and even up to the 1800's it was very difficult to light fire. Matches were not perfected, and the search for the proper materials to light and k

New Building in Jerusalem.

Image
This is the central construction site in Jerusalem. It used to be an old village that was used by the Government. I once had to go there when I was working for Prof. Moshe Prywes, running his Israel Journal of Medical Sciences. I had to get approval of the non-profit status of the magazine. Now, it going to be a very expensive high quality residential complex. I'll go back and take more pictures as the construction progresses and I see the gate open! In the Middle of Jerusalem is the Swedish Monastery!

Image
Jerusalem is huddled around the Swedish Monastery. In this rare picture, you can see the flag waving! It sits in the "Green Lung" in the middle of the city, and Katamon, is named for it. "Kata" mean near to and "mon" is short for Monastery. I have never been inside but that might change in the near future. The light at the end of the Tunnel

Image
This is of a building in Arnona, and it reminded me of the light at the end of the Tunnel. Remember that if you are a little down, that HaShem doesn't give you tests that you can't pass. Sure, there are times that it seems that everything is insurmountable, and that it is impossible to go on. Look at this picture and feel the hope. Feel the light that is coming from the end, and you will find the strength to go on. You have accomplished much in your life and will accomplish more. Choose to see light and not darkness. The Great Synagogue of the Old City of Jerusalem during the day and at night!

Image
I was in the Old City this week, and I couldn't resist these pictures. You never know when you are going to be that way again, so it is best to catch your memories when you see them! This was one of the synagogues which was destroyed in 1948 when Israel had to surrender the Old City of Jerusalem to Jordan. Now, has been rebuilt and it is beautiful! You can go inside as a tour, or even pray there! Rachael Alice 052-7500608 http://travelinghairsalon.weebly.com/

It is taken by another program, 3DSteroid, an Android app. If you want to see it 3D, you have to look at the picture cross eyed. Night view of Northern Jerusalem in 3D!

Last night I couldn't sleep so, I caught this view from my favorite place, my living room window. We live on the 7th floor so it is easy to get stunning views. I have posted this before, but now since I have discovered 3D photography, I decided to try it with this new website. The only problem is that it is very expensive to print the photos. No worry, I'll find a way around that too, so anyway, enjoy this picture! http://www.start3d.com/en/6699024263/0001/5689175512186502 After taking this picture, I was able to sleep! Maybe I'll take some pictures in your area of Jerusalem too! Rachael Alice Traveling Hair Salon 052-7500608 Photography is just a hobby!

Cats in the Cardo, Old City Jerusalem

Image
I was just coming back from a haircut appointment in the Old City of Jerusalem last Erev Shabbat, and I saw a very friendly cat come up to me who wanted petted. "Please pet me? " "Of course," I said, and we had a good time with her rubbing up and I petted her. Then, I sat down with my heavy backpack and I just couldn't resist this picture, which should be in a Photography book! This is what she is looking at. This was the first picture that I took, and it is the best one of the series. Then there was a white cat that was stuck in a room, that reminded me of the Lion of Judea! Can't you just see this one as a Lion? Just beautiful! Have a great week. If you want a haircut, just call: Rachael, the Traveling Hair Salon in Jerusalem 0527500608 rachael5760@yahoo.com Rachael Alice !

Are we better off with the Light Rail Train?

Image
This is a picture of the downtown area of Jerusalem. Kinda empty. Where did the people go? There are people about, but are they really revitalizing the downtown? Do people really go there to do shopping, or do they go to the Malcha Mall? Where do people who like to spend money go? I really didn't see what was the problem with letting busses and cars go on Yaffa street. The business were hopping, and you could get a seat on almost any bus to take you to the Central bus station. Now, the train is usually so crowded that you have to push to get on, and most likely you won't get a seat. This is difficult if you have done your shopping at Machne Yehuda market. You have your cart, and there is no place to put it. The downtown suffered for many year while they were building the light rail system, and many businesses went bankrupt. We might have a cleaner city, but the quality of life has decreased. I only go downtown if I really need it. I save up all the errands to

I happened to be in Tel Aviv two weeks ago, and I found these pictures waiting for me. Tel Aviv is not all tall buildings, glass and metal. The first picture is of the Yakon River, well more like a creek. and the second shows blue sky, and trees. Music Festival in the Old City of Jerusalem

Image
I was in the Old City to do a haircut this week, and I had a big surprise as I was walking in! There were lights and music coming from almost everyplace! The municipality of Jerusalem is celebrating as we are cleaning for Pesach with music! I don't know if the Rabbis of the Old City really agree with this . . . It was a diversion from the scrubbing and scouring. Have a Chag Ksher and most importantly, Sameach! The Jerusalem Lions are still guarding us!

Image
If you remember the campaign a long time ago about the Jerusalem Lions that were painted by different artists and then sold off, so I am finding them in interesting places. This one looks dressed up for a formal affair! It looks as if he's been played with and has paint missing though. . . Rachael Alice I"m already thinking about Pesach, I'm going into the closets and cleaning out. Maybe it is time for a haircut? www.travelinghairsalon.weebly.com 052-7500608

After Election Mess, literally

Image
It has taken a whole week for the city to clean up after the election petek dump. Even if you are happy with the results of the elections, the amount of paper that gets wasted is such a Shanda! Did seeing the names of the parties on the ground influence you about which party to vote for? I made my decision weeks before. It should be from a sense of public duty that people always clean up their trash, and not only during elections.

No School today, Friday

Image
This picture is from January 10th! Happy Snow Day! The Education Ministry has announced that today, January 11th, the schools in Jerusalem will not open. This is to allow the snow to melt on the roads, so that parents who are not experienced in driving in bad road conditions will not have the risk of accidents. There is still snow on the roads, as well as on the cars and vegetation. Rachael Alice www.travelinghairsalon.weebly.com The Traveling Hair Salon will go on the Road, starting Sunday! Call to make your appointment for a Facial, Haircut or Color!

Don't take your Umbrella in this storm!

Image
These are the casualties from the big storm that is hitting Jerusalem this week! While walking about getting things done, this is what I found: broken umbrellas just left by frustrated people! Today, the Ministry of Education is holding classes until 12:00 noon, and then sending the children home. My son's school just called and instead of sending him at 12:00, they are sending him at 11:00am! Not much learning is going on today! The snow is to hit this afternoon and this evening! Phone and Internet lines are expected to be hit as well. Plan ahead and get prepared, as supermarkets may not be able to get their normal deliveries. Stay warm and dry inside! Rachael Alice _________________________________________________________________________________ Sponsored by: Get a FACIAL for your wedding!
